Jimmy Stewart is a 2½-year-old ruby Cavalier with a sweet, loving personality. His birthdate is 8/19/2023 He gets along wonderfully with our resident Cavaliers and loves spending time outdoors, especially running along the fence and playfully chasing the neighbor dogs. When Jimmy first came to us, he had limited social skills and was not potty trained. However, he is incredibly smart and has made tremendous progress. He now lets us know when he needs to go outside by going to the back door. He has also become very friendly with foster neighbors and does an excellent job walking on a leash around the neighborhood. Everyone who meets Jimmy falls in love with him. He can be a bit nervous around sudden movements, and his crate is his safe place. He sleeps in his crate at night and eats his meals there as well, though the door is left open during the day so he can come and go freely.

We do not recommend homes with cats or very young children. 

Jimmy has been diagnosed with Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA) and has been examined by an ophthalmologist at MedVet.  He will need to take an eye supplement for the rest of his life. At this time, his vision is not significantly affected. He will need a family committed to continued training—particularly vocal cues—as his vision changes in the future. A follow up appointment at the ophthalmologist in 9 months is recommended.  In his foster home, the backyard is well-lit with floodlights, allowing him to navigate easily. During the daytime, his vision is not impacted, and he happily plays fetch and finds his toys without difficulty.

Jimmy has been neutered and received his vaccinations and basic exam.
