We don't know if Betty is a Taylor Swift fan, but as for her former puppy-mill-mama life... she's ready to shake it off. This girl has put the past behind her and hit the ground running. She's friendly, active, sweet and smart. Everything you could want in a best friend.

Betty celebrated a birthday in her foster home on August 27th. She is 3 years old and currently weighs 20 lbs. Betty is from an Amish kennel in Holmes County, OH.  She is currently fostered in western PA, south of Pittsburgh.

If you look up the definition of "Love Bug" in the dictionary, you'll see Betty's freckled face. There's nothing she wants more in this world than to give love and be loved. She's a top-notch snuggler and giving kisses is her specialty. She appreciates getting kisses in return and really enjoys a good belly rub.

Besides kissing and snuggling, her hobbies include playing with toys, exploring the unknown, and following your every move. Ever feel lonely? You won't with Betty. She wants to be with you 24/7. She's not dramatic about it, though, and shows no signs of separation anxiety. She'll even sleep soundly in her crate all night (after a goodnight kiss and a cookie reward, of course). With that being said, she would most definitely love to sleep in the big bed with her person. Be warned, though. She's a snorer. She would also be happy to free sleep with fur siblings.

Speaking of fur siblings, she loves having them. Another dog in the home is recommended. She definitely thrives with a canine companion. Also have a cat? That's fine too. She's met a few and she's ok with them. Have human children? Betty is a sturdy and gentle girl, but its recommended she go to a home with slightly older, dog-savvy children. She tends to turn into a "bull in a china shop" at times and babies would easily be knocked over when zoomies hit.

She is very much a puppy at heart and loves to play. She will run with her fur siblings and play tug-of-war, but she's also content to entertain herself with toys even if you're in the room with her.

She is house broken as long as she is given plenty of opportunities to go outside. Otherwise, you'll have to learn her cues: standing with her nose pressed against the door or circling. She's learned that she can ring a bell when she wants to go out from her foster sister. She's not consistent with it, but she's very smart and with more training this could be her norm. She sits for a treat and could be taught other commands using a reward system. Like most Cavaliers, she is food-motivated and eager to please.

She comes when called and answers to Betty, Bette, and Bet Bet. Call her what you want, just don't call her late to supper. This girl LOVES to eat. She currently uses a slow-feeder bowl and continued use is highly recommended.

She's a great travel companion, always up for a car ride, and sits nicely in her car seat. She is learning to walk on a leash and doing well. She also loves to be off-leash and explore the fenced-in yard.

Betty was shaved by the breeder before coming into rescue, but her curly ears and leg feathering are starting to grow. She'll have that signature Cavalier 'do in no time. In the meantime, baths and blowdrys are a breeze.

Betty is up-to-date on vaccinations, had a dental where she only lost 2 small teeth, and was spayed. According to the vet, her eyes, knees and heart are in good shape.

Betty requires a securely fenced yard attached to the home and another dog for companionship.  Please consider her location in western PA before applying as we do not support long distant adoptions or ship dogs on planes or use commercial transport services.

After completing an application, please contact Mary Coyne, luckystarrescue@gmail.com of your interest.
