Harry is a Cavalier puppy (DOB 9/25/2021).  Harry was born with congenital Alopecia.  Alopecia is caused by a lack of normal development of hair follicles.  It cannot be treated. Harry has no hair on the top of his head, tops of his ears , a strip on his back and his entire underside.  He will need sunscreen during the summer months to protect his skin from sunburn.  Other more serious medical conditions can be associated with this condition but fortunately for Harry, the other conditions he has are fairly minor.  He has dry eye and does not produce any tears so he must be treated a few times a day with OTC moisture gel and/or drops and have his eyes cleansed with saline solution.  His nails are a bit frail and shell-like and we’re waiting for his adult teeth to come in to see if they are affected.    He weighed 3 lbs when he came to us on December 4 at 10 weeks old and now he weighs almost 9 lbs at   4 1/2 months so we expect him to be a good size.

Other than that, Harry is just a delightful boy.  He is lively and playful and is loved and tolerated by the adult Cavs in his foster home.  He is a bundle of energy and is fearless.  Even though he is half their size, he will tackle them, pull their ears and then move on to the next one to engage them in play.  Ginger is one of our foster moms who is typically a very timid girl but she and Harry are the best playmates.  He brings out a completely different dog in Ginger. She must had been a very good mother.  She tolerates him better than any of the others. Harry really doesn't play with toys, he plays with other dogs.

Harry wears jammies most of the time because of his lack of hair and the cold Maine winter and a fleece jacket on those few occasions when he makes a trip to the vet.  He has not been brought outside yet and uses housebreaking pads in an ex-pen for potty training.    His foster mom keeps a routine and knows the signs so he goes to his pen when it’s time.  He does not soil his bedding.  Harry sleeps in a 36” x 36” pen with a bolster bed and another puppy.  He has slept all night since he came to rescue.  When the weather is better, we’ll work on going outside.  It’s just been too cold for a hairless boy. He’s a very good boy.

Harry has been neutered and is up to date on all of his vaccinations and has a microchip.  He has the large platelet condition (macrothrombocytopenia) that many Cavaliers have.

Harry is a special boy who is lucky to have come to rescue.  We will be looking for a special home for him.  Young children are not appropriate.  He absolutely must have other canine play companions and humans who will continue to work with him as he grows and thrives.  We do not ship dogs, use commercial transports or put on planes.  Please be within a reasonable driving distance and consider that before applying.  Harry is being fostered in Maine.  Please read this entire bio and complete an application if you are that special home, then contact Mary Coyne, mary401339@aol.com.
