James - TN

April 7, 2010

Here are some recent photos of James.  He's really looking good and is such a wonderful boy!

James is doing great!  James would love a home in which he could be the center of attention and be able to nap on your lap! He loves everyone he meets and has no fears or phobias. He would fit in with a family, retired couple, or even a single individual. He is easy going and laid back, enjoys sunny weather but hates the cold (who doesn't?) and will follow you anywhere you go. He gets along with all other pets and has never reacted negatively to any other animal he has met. He enjoys the dog park and socializing with other people and dogs. He does have some minor health issues but he is easy to medicate and appreciates the one on one time!

He is a conversation piece as his unusual look endears him to people and they always ask about him, his breed, and his story of why he is in rescue. No one is able to resist a quick pet for this bug-eyed boy!  He really does not behave like a 9 year Cavalier as he is full of life and so cuddly! Won't you think about giving this sweet boy a forever home in which he will love you back unconditionally?

James has had some chronic eye ulcers and the reason for this is that he was found to have dry eye. He currently is on eye medication that he will need longterm to keep his tear production up. Since starting the medication he has not had any more ulcers and his eyes look great! He also was diagnosed with hypothyroidism when his skin and coat were not improving on diet alone. His dry skin is starting to respond and his coat is finally starting to grow in. He will need thyroid pills longterm but he loves his medication and is no problem to give them too! We are hoping that in a few months time he will have a beautiful Cavalier coat again. He continues to blossom and loves everyone and everything he meets! He is so well adjusted that he will transition easily into his forever home

James is an 8 year old Blenheim male with tons of personality! He came to rescue as a retired breeding dog in a TN kennel.  He can to us in bad shape but is now on the road to recovery. He currently weighs in at 18 lbs, 4 pounds heavier than when we got him and he is still very skinny.  He loves to eat though and should end up at a healthy weight.  He does have a mild Grade I heart murmur that requires no medication at this time. He had a corneal ulcer that is now healed and had to have 19 teeth removed.  His patellas are clear however he does have some arthritis in his hocks and knees and walks with a stiff gait. He is on joint supplements and gets around with no problems.

James is very outgoing! He constantly makes his foster mom laugh as he is a big clown with a funny little face.  His eyes are the largest his foster mom has ever seen on a Cavalier and they do point outwards to the side which gives him a muppet appearance!  His tail NEVER stops wagging and has had to have it bandaged when he constantly beat it against the walls. He is a couch potato and will scramble and beat his foster siblings out for a chance to sit on a lap.  He prefers the indoors and does not like to be outside long. He gets along great with kids, cats, and other dogs so long as another dog does not attempt to get near his food or a treat.

James walks well on a leash and has had no accidents in the house so he is doing well with housetraining. He is very smart and learning basic obedience---he will do anything for a treat! James has not shown to be afraid of anything and takes all new experiences in stride and he even likes to ride in the car.  James only barks when he is about to eat or when he wants to come back inside-he has more of a honk than a bark and it is very funny to hear! James needs a home as the only dog or one other dog because he demands so much attention. He would fit in with most family situations.

James is being fostered in Knoxville, TN.  For more information once youve completed an application contact Stephanie at drhickey@admiralvet.com.
