Sal - IN

January 8, 2010
Sal is adjusting to a change in his foster care environment.  He is still timid, but wags his tail when told he's a good boy and his ears/chin get a good rub.  He has a foster sister to hang out with and follow around regularly.  Sal definitely lets her take the lead, preferring to wait his turn for attention.  He does voice his opinion when he wants food or to go for a walk (and that is certainly okay).  Sal's gentle and quiet personality is slowly continuing to emerge and he does spend less time hiding, though he still likes his own space away from everyone once in a while.  He is trained to use a doggy-door but will push it a few times with his snout to make sure it's okay to go in and out.  Sal loves to be brushed but his thin brittle hair tangles easily so daily grooming will be a must.   Barking while leash walking is still being worked on, though it appears to be a "mating" type bark and when told "no barking" he stops and happily keeps on truckin'.

Sal's forever home must be quiet with no small children, have another Cavalier, as well as a fenced yard (and his wish list includes a screened porch where he can relax in the shade), his own space somewhere in the house for quiet time (and he'll pick that), and special attention to his anal glands and teeth.  He has Grade 4 periodontal issues that must be addressed since he has already lost teeth from previous bad dental hygiene...and he is prone to infection in his anal glands if not monitored and expressed every 4-6 weeks.

Sweet Sal is an 8 year old Blenheim male who is looking for a quiet home, no children, as he is frightened by loud noises.  Sal was adopted to a home a couple of years ago and had to be returned by his family.  He deserves and needs a forever home that is really rescue savvy.

This wonderful little boy needs another dog to follow, as he is very unsure of himself.  He has been fostered in his new foster home now for a month, and is just beginning to follow his dog sister – mimicking her schedule.  Otherwise, he will not come out of his hiding corners to eat on his own.  He is leash trained, has the potty training just about figured out, but will not come back in through a door, so you will need to be able to pick him up for awhile to show him it is okay to come back inside.  This little boy requires someone who is patient, gentle and has a very quiet home.

Sal is being fostered in Indianapolis, IN.  For more information – only after completing an application – please contact kimberly_olive@hotmail.com.  Please state your location in your initial email so we can find your application.

Kerri and Sal (adopted to be brothers and sisters) were returned to Lucky Star due to family changes that made it impossible to keep them.

9/10/07:

Sal has found a love for toys! He plays with them and the other dogs in his foster home and is doing very well. Since he loves to chase leaves, he can't wait for the Fall winds to bring even more from the trees! His housetraining is coming along very well...and he hasn't had an accident in several weeks!! Yay!! Now all Sal needs is a home of his own....

8/22/07:

Sal is gaining confidence and getting better every day. He is still waiting for his perfect forever family to find him...and a quiet home where someone will love him. He's sad that he hasn't found that home yet...so if you are interested, please contact us!

7/19/07:

Sal is a beautiful 6 year old blenheim boy who yearns to be loved. He is very concerned with loud noises and sudden movements, but he is slowly gaining confidence with the gentle stroke of his foster mom's hand. He has been most gracious by not going potty in the house, and he loves the adventures in the back yard. Sal would be most suited to a home without children that is as quiet as possible. He is most loyal and will quickly become his new family's best and most trusted friend. Sal has been completely vetted and neutered...and he has no health issues.

If you are interested in adopting this sweet boy, please fill out and submit a current adoption application and then contact kimberly_olive@hotmail.com for more information. He is being fostered in Indianapolis, IN.
