SPONSORSHIP INFORMATION: OUR SPECIAL DOGS!
Hansel and the Gift of Sight Hansel came to Lucky Star Cavalier Rescue at the age of 6 weeks with severe cataracts, severe respiratory infections and severely malnourished. He struggled to survive for several weeks, but he is a fighter and was determined to pull through.
HANSEL AS A PUP We had to wait until he was old enough and his eyes were mature enough to have surgery. Our little boy has grown up and is now ready to have cataract surgery. What a trouper this little guy has been! Although he was born with very limited eye sight, and a pretty rough start, this little guy has continued to portray that cavalier spirit that we all know and love. He is the "welcoming committee" where ever he goes and absolutely loves everyone whether they have two legs or four!
HANSEL NOW at 8 mos. old We have raised some funds for his surgery but the surgery is very expensive and we still need additional funds to cover the cost of the surgery. I know this is the time of year when everyone is asked to help and pulled in so many different directions, but I hope you can find it in your heart to help give this little angel a very special Christmas present, the gift of complete eye sight. Thanks to all of you for your continuous support and help in saving these precious cavaliers!!! You can donate to help Hansel here: Or if you prefer, you can mail a donation to: Lucky Star Cavalier Rescue P.O. Box 7054 Carmel, CA 93921 Please put a note that your donation is for Hansel. We thank you and Hansel thanks you. Without your continued support, we would not be able to help dogs like Hansel. Thank you and a wonderful SEASON's GREETINGS to you all! ROSIE Update: December 21, 2011 Rosie had her first surgery (on the better leg). She is now using a cart to hold up her end while her leg heals and to help her get around. She is busy exploring places she couldn't get to before. Her tail never stops wagging. Rosie is an amazing brave girl with amazing heart!
Update on Rosie - December 7, 2011 Rosie has seen an orthopedic surgeon. The condition in both of her legs is caused by two inherited conditions, hip displaysia and luxating patellae. Her left hip is dislocated due to the severe displaysia. Surgery (both hip and knee) on her right leg, the better of her bad legs, is scheduled for Monday, December 13. This is the only leg that has a chance of being repaired. Thanks to your donations, Rosie will also have a cart to help her get around during her recuperation and will also be scheduled for hydrotherapy to help strengthen that right leg. Unfortunately, the prognosis for the left leg is not so hopeful. After she has strength in her right leg to support her, the left leg will need to be amputated. This little girl is such a happy girl, we just cannot emphasize it enough. She is so friendly and gets along with the other Cavaliers in her foster home. She hobbles around on those bad legs with no complaints. She also loves to gather stuffed toys and bones and bring them back to her crate, and has quite a collection of items there. This little girl is full of personality. She will be a wonderful companion for someone, once she has recovered from her surgeries. Thanks to you and your generosity, we are able to give Rosie the best possible medical care available to repair her leg, minimize her pain and increase her mobility. We will keep you informed of her progress. Thank you so very much for your kindness and generosity.
PLEASE HELP ROSIE HAVE SOMETHING TO BE REALLY THANKFUL FOR! One of the saddest videos we have ever seen of a really brave girl! Rosie is a 6-7 year blenheim female, surrendered to Lucky Star last week from a commercial breeding facility in Ohio. The video that follows will break your heart but it will give you a clear idea of what this girl has dealt with every day of her life. Her knees are completed dislocated from the socket and fused in an awkward position. If you look closely, her left knee appears to be bending in the opposite direction. Luxating patella is an inherited condition and this is the result of a severe case gone untreated. It's difficult to believe that any human being can inflict this kind of pain on any animal, do nothing to stop it, AND breed her again and again, passing the same condition along to her offspring. It's very possible that Rosie has had a litter every six months for her entire life. The vet said: " She has the worst knee I have ever seen, it's not only that her knee is completely fused, her left hip is completely out of socket." He also said he was in awe that she was still able to get up and be mobile. He said she was going to have a long hard recovery.
When you watch the video, you can't help but notice her happy disposition and how much she loves to play with other dogs. Her deformity and limited mobility has not diminished that wonderful temperament that we have all grown to love from this breed. She is so happy to be free! Her tail never stops wagging in spite of the pain she is in. Things are going to change for Rosie now that she has found Lucky Star. With your help, we're going to get her the corrective surgery she needs to relieve her pain and give her better use of her back legs. Orthopedic surgery and physical therapy are expensive. Please consider what this gift will do for Rosie. If you can find it in your heart to donate any amount to her medical care, she would be most appreciative. Tax deductible donations can be made through PayPal by clicking on the button below. You can give using your Paypal account or a credit card. Please note in the comments section that the donation is for Rosie. Or if you prefer, you can mail a donation to: Lucky Star Cavalier Rescue P.O. Box 7054 Carmel, CA 93921 Please put a note that your donation is for Rosie. We thank you and Rosie thanks you. Without your continued support, we would not be able to help dogs like Rosie.
UPDATE: Both Harry and Darla are doing fine thanks to all our wonderful donors and volunteers and both have been adopted! Thank you Cavalier Angels!!
In this past year, we’ve seen more medical challenges and have met more grateful dogs who continue to teach us about forgiveness, perseverance and above all, love.
We could never have helped these dogs without the dedicated volunteers who never fail to drop what they’re doing to help a Cavalier in need. Our wonderful cavalier donor angels generously give to cover the huge medical expenses it takes. We’d like to extend a very special thank you to each one of you. Your help makes it all possible!
Harry UDATE! September 24, 2011 Just a quick update for those of you following this story of the pup who had his PDA surgically corrected: Harry is doing well and recovering nicely in his foster home. He is not happy about not getting to run and play but he is coping OK. Check out this cute picture of Harry in his surgical collar! Thanks to all who are his angels. He/we appreciate all your prayers and generosity on his behalf!
September 6, 2011 Harry had his surgery today and the procedure went very well. He is recovering in ICU and will remain at the hospital for a couple of days. A Lucky Star volunteer works in the cardiology department of the hospital where he is being cared for. She is keeping a close eye on him. Thankfully, the procedure is behind him. If all continues this way, he will be able to live a normal life. Thank you so very much to all who donated and made this possible.
PLEASE HELP FIX HARRY'S BROKEN PUPPY HEART!
Harry is a sweet 12 week old puppy born shortly after his mom came into Lucky Star Cavalier Rescue. Isn't he adorable? But Harry was recently diagnosed with a Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA), a common canine congenital heart defect. A puppy born with PDA may appear normal for a few weeks, except that it may be the first to tire while playing and the smallest puppy in the litter. Upon medical exam, there will be a loud, continuous murmur. Eventually the puppy will develop clinical signs of heart failure. Harry was just diagnosed with testing by a cardiac surgeon who recommended that the corrective surgery must be done within the next few weeks. or you may mail a check (note that the gift is for Harry) to: Lucky Star Cavalier Rescue
